We quickly removed the refrigerator and made that space into a lined closet with lightweight wooden shelves. It was perfect for storing Geneva’s clothes.
Then we turned the original closet area into a pantry. We realized that having more food on hand, meant that we could stay off grid a little longer. To maximize the use of this pantry space, we added metal, sliding drawers mounted in a wooden frame.
First we built a wooden frame that could attach to the top, bottom and sides of the closet space. This is where the drawer sliders and brackets would be mounted.

Then the drawers were slid in to place. They are on a ball bearing sliding mechanism, which gives a smooth glide.

They are evenly spaced, with room for taller storage of boxes or bottles. There is also a large, open area underneath the shelves for even more storage.

When they are filled, they are quite heavy. But the frame and brackets are sufficient to support them perfectly. We did learn that we needed to add a sliding latch at the end of each drawer . This is to keep it in place while driving. After cleaning up one big, messy spill, the final change was made.

I hope these photos are helpful to you as you consider modifications for your camper.
