Working our way across the “Deep South” of the USA!

We have been in 4 states in the past week, and they all have a few things in common:

1. bugs  (gnats, mosquitos, maybugs, spiders, ticks)

2. rain (unexpected, sneak attacks of good, hard rain)

3. thick, lush greenery (lawns, shrubs, roadsides, swamps, bayous, campgrounds)

4. raccoons (waiting until we are all asleep to begin their thievery and annoying the heck out of our director of security-Zeb)

Here is a collection of photos from the past week of traveling through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

This guy caught a snake as it slithered into the trees alongside our campsite.
Campsite at Manatee Springs. We did not see a manatee but we had a great paddle on the Suwannee River.
Canoe ride on the Suwannee River.
Mike paddling along the Suwannee River.
Typical coastal homes along the Gulf of Mexico.
The most crowded campground we have stayed in so far. Somewhere in Florida panhandle.
See the huge snake on the log? We paddled over closer to take a look.
As we paddled in closer to look at the snake on a log, I found myself about 2 feet away from this. Look closely into the bush….
The Naval Air Museum in Pensacola has a huge amount of aircraft.
Mike is really enjoying the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola.
Found this quirky little spot using Roadside America app. An underwater laboratory on display.
Another roadside oddity, resembling a yellow submarine!
Powdery white sand and stormy skies.
Powdery white sand and stormy skies in Florida panhandle.
Also found this floating in the swamp of the Suwannee River.
Snapping turtle on a log in the river.
Turtle log in Manatee Springs.
Typical highway scenery. High, thick grow of trees, vines and shrubs with wide shoulders of grass.
An interesting selection of magazines at the cash register here in the Deep South.
