Working our way across the “Deep South” of the USA!

We have been in 4 states in the past week, and they all have a few things in common:

1. bugs  (gnats, mosquitos, maybugs, spiders, ticks)

2. rain (unexpected, sneak attacks of good, hard rain)

3. thick, lush greenery (lawns, shrubs, roadsides, swamps, bayous, campgrounds)

4. raccoons (waiting until we are all asleep to begin their thievery and annoying the heck out of our director of security-Zeb)

Here is a collection of photos from the past week of traveling through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

A guy caught this snake as it slithered into the trees alongside our campsite.

Campsite at Manatee Springs. We did not see a manatee but we had a great paddle on the Suwannee River.

See the huge snake on the log? We paddled over closer to take a look.

As we paddled in closer to look at the snake on a log, I found myself about 2 feet away from this. Look closely into the bush....

  1. what a great bunch of photos, looks like you guys are having a great time touring the south.

  2. Cosmo and Concealed Carry. Quite the combo!
Hanks for the turtle no matter what kind.
I want to spend some time in the Panhandle. I took a bus through once and would love to explore.

  3. I think those turtles are something else….not snappers. The snakes are poisonous….the ones in the trees, but I can’t think of the name. Don’t know about the one at the campground! My first geology job was in a swamp in west Florida, just north of Fort Myers, with a lively population of lethal critters!
