Someone asked me- I really love what you are doing. How unique is your lifestyle is going to be on the road? Where do you want to go? Why did you make this decision?

Mike and I met in 2000.  We have lived in Mexico, Costa Rica, Philippines and the US together in the past 14 years.  We are both in education (he is a county administrator of school services, I own and operate a charter high school) and are 50ish.  We have worked our years and paid into the system and can finally afford to leave the “grind”.  We are declaring ourselves retired, and moving to our next chapter.
We will move into Alta as soon as the house sells.  We will work our jobs through January.  Then hit the road with the three dogs.  First we will head to Florida, explore the Keys.  Then drive to Nova Scotia (just because I want to see it).  Then across Canada to Alaska.  In Alaska we will grab the Pan-American Highway and point the van South!
We plan to travel slowly, enjoy the locations, the sites and the people.  We will live, cook, eat, sleep, read, play and drive in the van.  As we travel Mexico and on down Latin and South America we will be free to stop and work or play as we wish.  We might find a nice beach to set up on.  Or we might find a school that needs our help.  We may even settle in a village for a little while and be of service to people!  Whatever comes along, is ours to choose.
Mike and I have driven across Baja, and Mexico-mainland already.  We practice a few basic rules when we travel.  We always read bulletin boards and posters in a new town- you can find the best stuff to do from those.  We ask kids for directions, suggestions and information- kids know everything about their town and are not to jaded by politics or power to tell you the truth.  We try to invest regularly with deposits in our Karma-Bank.  We stop at accidents, pick up hitch hikers, give donations, cover peoples tabs and treat others with respect.
Besides these facts, it is hard to say what our trip will be like.  There are a lot of people that live in RV’s, go over-landing, camp out and even sleep in their cars.  We are hoping that our experience will be fantastic- and we will do what we can to make it that way.
